Lion dancing is the most vibrant auspicious symbol in the hearts of the Chinese people.

In China, lion dancing has never been merely a performance.

1. Expelling Evil and Averting Harm

In ancient times, people believed that lions, with their majestic presence,

could protect a home and ward off evil spirits. During festivals,

business openings, or when moving into a new home,

inviting a pair of lion dancers to perform was seen as a way to drive away negative influences and bring about peace and prosperity.

1. Festive and Lively Atmosphere

As the gongs and drums rang out and the lion dances unfolded,

the atmosphere instantly grew electric. The red lion symbolized festivity,

while the golden lion brought good fortune; wherever the dance took them, it carried a sense of vibrancy and joy with it.

Bringing Good Fortune

The word “lion” (shi) is a homophone for “affairs” (shi). Two lions dancing together

often symbolize “everything going as desired” and “good things come in pairs.”

The presence of a pair of lion dancers together inherently carries auspicious connotations of companionship and good fortune.

1. The Spirit of the Lion Dance

In southern China, the lion dance emphasizes the concept of “awakening” —the lion lies in a deep slumber,

but as the gongs and drums begin to beat, it suddenly awakens, exuding an imposing presence.

This act of “awakening” also symbolizes revitalization, an upward trajectory, and a refusal to settle for mediocrity.

The pair of lion dancers symbolizes the hope to ward off evil and attract good fortune, as well as the promise of a prosperous and flourishing life.

These lion dance tea ornaments are not only suitable for keeping as pets,
